Thousands participate in Muharram procession to observe Ashura day in Budgam

To commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) tens and thousands of mourners gathered in the Budgam Township here on Friday and joined the mourning processions observed in the town throughout the day.

Thronging from the diverse areas of district Budgam tens and thousands of mourners including men and women and children of all the ages joined in the 10th Muharram processions observed as Ashura day at main town Budgam.

The mourners mostly wearing black amid beating their chests were praising Imam Hussain (As) by reciting eulogies of him and other fighters of Karbala and raising Pro Hussain (AS) and anti-oppression slogans.

Each year the Ashura day is observed in every nook and corner of the valley with religious fervor. On this eve one of the largest processions was witnessed throughout the day in central Kashmir’s Budgam which was taken out from Jamia Babul Aloom Mirgund Budgam and culminated at main chowk Budgam to commemorate the noble sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS).

The procession was participated by thousands of Shia mourners carrying black and red flags and holding placards scribbled with pro Hussain (AS) couplets and pro-resistance quotes. However the volunteers had erected hundreds of banners in the main town Budgam and the adjacent streets of Township and had set several stalls at various places to offer the drinking water facilities to the mourners thronging from diverse areas.
